TAMPA, FLA. – (November 3rd, 2014) When the fog of war descends, how do you know where to go? Maps were as valuable as rifles and cannons during the Civil War.  Tune into Tampa Bay Art and Education Network’s (TBAE) newest original television series, Mapping The Civil War, and learn how innovations in map making changed the outcome of the Civil War.  
 
Ross Lamoreaux’s boyhood curiosity about one of America’s greatest conflicts led him on a quest to understand the details of that time.  A Tampa Bay History Center staffer and a life-long Civil War reenactor, he shares how mapmakers and generals used  maps to determine the strategies that decided the fate of the Union. His handmade period costumes lend historical accuracy and drama to the series. 
 
This four episode series begins on November 3^rd at 10 PM.  A collaborative project with the Tampa Bay History Center (TBHC) and University of South Florida’s Osher Life Long Learning Center, this program will be aired exclusively on TBAE Channel – Bright House 614 & Verizon 32. 
 
“Wars produce death, and innovation,” said Ann Goldenberg, Executive Director of TBAE.  “This program shows just how valuable maps are to war efforts and how far maps have come from the days they marked the unknown with “here there be monsters.” TBHC’s educational programs are riveting and we can’t wait to share Mapping The Civil War with our local television audience and global internet audience.” 
 
The Lecture series is cooperative program of the Tampa Bay History Center and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Florida.  The television series based upon these lectures was produced by TBAE Network in cooperation with the Tampa Bay History Center and USF’s Osher Lifelong Learning Center. The series will air beginning November 3rd at 10 PM on TBAE Channel - Bright House 614 & Verizon 32.  Will be available on TBAE.NET on Demand in December, 2014.
